This is a romanticized movie, but I rather enjoyed it. It looked like a film movie that was made in 1955.

This is rich film fodder on its own, though framing it through the eyes of an imagined admirer never yields satisfying dramatic results: Mercedes functions more as a proxy for the filmmaker’s fascination than as a compelling character in her own right.

The movie subsides into a sentimental bittersweet sadness on the subject of the stylish murderer’s lawn looking greener than the one you’ve been tending

...it shines a spotlight on how things have changed. Yet also how much they’re still the same. It reminds us to never stop fighting – or we will be going back!
