Reed constructs a humanizing portrait of the legendary performer and offers a blueprint for community healing.

I’m Your Venus sings with not just storytelling nous, but authenticity and potent emotional clarity. Reed, who is transgender but also indeed white, allows for transparency and honestly where before there may not have been.

The new film, directed by Kimberly Reed, has a great hook, and it follows through.

Ultimately, Venus is still the star of the show, her authentic and unvarnished truth remaining eloquent despite the passage of more than 40 years.
