The Insidious films may have offered diminishing returns since the original, but Out Of The Further is a decent instalment packing some hair-raising scares.

Insidious: Out of the Further might be dumb and predictable in its broad strokes, but as a shock engine it’s occasionally clever, especially in its early going.

After a while the film’s sustained creepiness gives way to self-parody, with all the grotesquely made-up performers portraying the demonic figures starting to look like exhausted Comic-Con attendees after a very long weekend.

By just varying the original story, the snake is now eating its own tail. It’s time to close the door on this franchise for good.
