Storyline

Long before O'Reilly and Beck, Morton Downey, Jr., was tearing up the talk-show format with his divisive populism. Between the fistfights, rabid audience, and Mort's cigarette smoke always "in your face," The Morton Downey Jr. Show was billed as "3-D television," "rock and roll without the music." Évocateur meditates on the hysteria that ended the '80s and ultimately its most notorious agitator.

Evocateur offers so much more, some of it compelling, some of it disturbing and some of it revelatory

RTNew York Daily NewsAug 20, 2015

A new documentary on the late trash-talking TV host Morton Downey Jr. suggests he might have been putting one over on both the world and himself.

O

Owen Gleiberman

RTEntertainment WeeklyOct 2, 2013

This sharp documentary tribute to Downey's bug-eyed, fulminating charisma - he was like a Nixon who'd let out his id - reveals the demons that drove him to fame, then dragged him down.

RTINDY WeekOct 25, 2017

He was the perfect by-product of the Reagan era and, as Evocateur reminds us, someone rabid, right-wing broadcasters should gratefully praise every day of their lives.
