[The film's] moments of the girls enjoying their friendship have an appealing freshness that almost matches the quality of the bangers on the soundtrack.

Valerie Weiss' very-young-adult dramedy is... a (deep) cut above the usual tween fare.

‘Mixtape’ is a film you can watch after a tiring day at work when you wish and hope to go back to your happy 90s days when the world was not yet tech-savvy. A film you can indulge in knowing there is a happy ending and there are better days.

Ultimately, the heartfelt Mixtape isn't only about remembering the past and taking something from it. It's about making new friends and memories, too.
