From this solid material, director Omung Kumar fashions a film that is structurally clumsy and overtly high-pitched but also strongly enacted and genuinely moving.

Sarbjit is at times genuinely moving and features a family reunion sequence that will reduce you to tears.

Even if these exclusions were to be excused as cinematic licence, the problem remains that this film fails to flesh out the people at the heart of this true story.

Every minister and every guard is a robotic caricature; they exist only to give a voice to the script, instead of providing vision to it.
