My Son

My Son finds its cinematic footing in a committed, steady, realism, and that creates a high-wire act of tension and suspense that's refreshingly clean and consistently effective.

Neither a bracing blast of vigilante pleasure nor an absorbing character piece, "My Son" is most notable for being Carion's second straight film about a father's desperate search for his son.

Think a more bare-bones, French-language "Taken."

Like Perrin's quest, the movie bluntly bashes its way through the snow-covered French countryside in a relentless pursuit toward the end.
