Oliver Reed gave his last great screen performance in Nicolas Roeg’s scenic adaptation of Lucy Irvine’s bestselling memoir.

Much of Castaway is about as exciting as watching an ordinary middle-aged man spend a year on a tropical island with an ordinary younger woman.

While not of the same potency of Roeg's earlier, famed decade, Castaway has its merits, and DP Harvey Harrison's island landscapes are deserving of a restoration.

Despite all its short-comings, Roeg never lets things get dull--his camera sees to that.
