It’s thrilling to watch Wai put all these puzzle pieces together, juggling various narrative threads and weaving together an intricate web of deceit and obfuscation

Hong Kong as a vision of hell. . . haunted by the ghosts not of victims, but of murderers.

It’s yet to be seen if Detective vs Sleuths will earn the chance at a follow-up, but as it stands the film remains a big, dumb, overly dramatic ball of violent fun.

[A] Milkyway-style [crime thriller that is] reasonably tense and entertaining.
