Deliberately designed, repetitive, predictable and emotionally manipulative, Pihu is cinema at its most duplicitous.

The film is basically every parent's nightmare, but attempts to up the emotional stakes fall flat because they are repetitive and obvious.

It may not be a flawless work of film-making but it has something valid to say about lousy parents.

An endurance test for its tiny heroine and audiences.
