Hoffman's acting along to the sound of someone else's voice makes him seem like a silent comedian doing a routine.

There's an overwhelming fondness for his foolish creatures that permeates [Pietro Germi's] films and makes Alfredo Alfredo a joy.

After suffering through Papillon, Dustin Hoffman fans will no doubt welcome the actor's return to brighter days as a bumbling young lover in Pietro Germi's Alfredo Alfredo.
