Romantic comedies seem harder than ever to get off the ground, at least on the big screen. Cold Storage, from British director Jonny Campbell, has an original solution: disguising itself as a splatter movie.

It's very funny and very gnarly... It does what it says on the box.

A clever, funny, suspenseful, interestingly cynical science-fiction horror movie with a great collection of monsters — courtesy of make-up geniuses Dave and Lou Elsey — and a cast whose enthusiasm is, appropriately, infectious.

Cold Storage offers up a lighthearted infection horror comedy that never quite heats up or succeeds on the gross-out factor.
