Saying the ins and outs of that story out loud makes it sound simple and maudlin – cat goes on biblical odyssey, learns selflessness – it’s Zilbalodis’s methodology and the animation that makes Flow feel so sophisticated.

It can be playful; it can be deceptively profound.

The world of Flow, like those of the best movies, is hallucinatory and its mood hypnotic, the rolling, seductive frames adding to the illusion of some powerful subconscious truth.

Through its stunning visuals and authentic portrayal of animals, it delivers a poignant reminder of our role in the ecosystem while showcasing nature’s enduring ability to persevere.
