Autumn Road

There is a much better film hiding inside this one, but it’s far too fascinated with the horror beats it wants to hit rather than the affecting character beats it achieves with occasional depth and beauty.

This is an oddly straightforward thriller, in which pretty much everything is exactly what it seems to be, except for what appear to be mistakes.

Unfortunately, all the Halloween aesthetics in the world can't stand in for a plot or good performances, nor can they replace a script or a judicious edit.
