It is more of the same with the emphasis on more and same... but dialed up.

Yet even by the depressing standards set by the Mortal Kombat movies, Uncharted and the first two miserable Sonic the Hedgehog outings, this third Sonic is staggeringly poor.

It turns out that you can, in fact, have too much of a good thing. Two Jim Carreys, each of them turning every individual line of dialogue into an extravagant pantomime of gurning and grandstanding, is categorically one too many.

As a fan of the games, this feels close to being the perfect Sonic movie, adapting Shadow the Hedgehog’s story with action and nuance. However, there’s an issue with tonal dissonance that contradicts the core theme of the story.
