Storyline

Upon his return from battle in the previous film, the great warrior Hercules learns that his lover, Daianara, has lost her senses. According to the oracle Medea, Dianara's only hope is the Stone of Forgetfulness which lies deep in the realm of Hades. Hercules, with two companions, Theseus and Telemachus, embarks on a dangerous quest for the stone, while he is unaware that Dianara's guardian, King Lico, is the one responsible for her condition and plots to have the girl for himself as his bride upon her revival.

…while story and dubbing are always an obstacle for modern viewers tackling such films, Hercules in the Haunted World is well worth a look, with breathtakingly-composed shots that leave you wondering how they could possibly have created such illusions…

An eerie, surreal vision of the afterlife as only Bava could have envisioned it.

The acting (aside from Lee) is wooden and the script extremely choppy, but the film is elevated by Bava's renowned eye for atmospherics.

The soundtrack of Armando Trovajoli also stands out, with jazz connotations that harmoniously match the fantasy. [Full Review in Spanish]
