Autumn Lights

Mistaking moody poses for storytelling, the Iceland-set "Autumn Lights" gathers an international assortment of insufferable ciphers in a remote coastal town.

An eerie drama of secrets that demonstrates how a lonely setting can play upon the emotions.

The film is like a landlocked Bergman chamber drama divested of any ambivalence regarding human relationships.

What remains are the bones of a decent genre flick, with the aspirations of a Nicolas Winding Refn film. Perhaps Aulakh will get there one day, but there are several kinks to smooth first.
